Alluri Sitarama Raju was an Indian independence activist who is best known for leading the Rampa Rebellion of 1922–1924, against the British Raj's rule in the Eastern Ghats of India. He was born in 1897 in the village of Pandrangi, near Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Raju was inspired by the Indian Nationalist Movement and the Non-Cooperation Movement of Mahatma Gandhi, and he decided to take up arms against the British rule. He led a group of tribal people in the Rampa region of present-day Andhra Pradesh and fought against the British forces for two years. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, Raju and his followers put up a valiant fight, but were eventually defeated by the British forces in 1924.

After his defeat, Raju was captured by the British and sentenced to life imprisonment. He died in 1924, while still in prison, under mysterious circumstances.
